Do you know what your core values are in this season of life?

May 15, 2017

It's funny how the twists and turns in life lead you to where you are in the present. I attended school to become a veterinary technician because my passion was animals, wanting to help them heal and to educate people on how to care for them.  Seven years later I found myself trying to figure out how to run a business!  God shapes and molds us into better people along our journey in life if we just listen and keep our minds open to him.  Being a photographer allows me to be creative and artistic which are my other two passions in life.  I love being able to make people feel beautiful about themselves.  To turn the ordinary into extraordinary.

 God's creations are beautiful.

Running a business is hard work.  Lots and lots of work.   There are pros and cons to being an entrepreneur just like there is with anything in life.  I love that I am able to be here for my daughter.  That is the #1 reason for starting this venture and I am  b l e s s e d  to be able to be here everyday with her. The flip side of that is the "lots and lots of work" can cause you to loose sight of what is important.  A few months ago I was on a mission to figure out what business model would suit me the best.  I came across several but none that stood out to me.  I almost wanted to give up completely because I felt that this business venture was pulling me away from God and my family too much.  It wasn't until I was browsing through you tube when I came across a video of a mom photographer who said to run your business the way you want to and not what the industry says is best.  Crazy right!?  Why would I not listen to the countless pros in this industry?  The same pros who are killing it in their businesses. Well, this mom photographer, was killing it in her business!  She went against the grain to run her business the way she saw fit.  To fit her needs and the needs of her family.

 My greatest blessing.

Shortly after watching this video I reached out to her.  She had been contemplating on teaching a course about the core values in yourself and where you are in your season of life.  Amazing how God works!  Suzanne Mellott is an amazing senior photographer who is active in her church and her family.  Once she decided to teach this course I was stoked!  The course helped me to find who I am as a person and who I want to be as a photographer. I have learned through this course that being an entrepreneur is not for everyone and that it takes dedication and hard work.  But at the same time my core values will always come before this dedication. God, my faith in him and my family are what is most important to me.  I want people to see God's goodness in the way people interact with me. His love for us is never ending.  I found that you can be a christian entrepreneur with no guilt.  Keeping God first in all I do has brought me here. To this season in my life.  I know he has many plans for me.  I want to continue to be shaped and molded into the best servant I can be for him.  To God be the glory for putting these ideas in Suzanne so that she could share them with others!  I hope this inspires someone to not give up but to use your talents and gifts for the good of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Check Suzanne's course out on her website: http://www.suzannemellott.com/inside-out-business/.

I hope this inspires someone struggling with the same problem, whether it be entrepreneur goals or just plain life.  You don't have to give up on your dreams if it is in God's will.  He will guide you and ultimately decide whether you succeed in something or not.  You just have to put in the work and pray without ceasing that he molds you into the person you were created to be.  I have discovered my core values. Faith, family, friendship, kindness, and honesty are just a few.  What are yours?
